Developing cost effective and environmentally sustainable roads is the main goal of Bluewater's Road Development module. To achieve cost-effectiveness, the developer needs to locate the road with the ideal horizontal and vertical road alignment which satisfies design considerations while minimizing preparation and excavation work.

Planning an optimal road requires excellent data and the software to employ that data. Bluewater's software system is designed to employ LiDAR data from the onset of road development. Developers can easily optimize a road placement based on specific design considerations. Our software system places the user in an immersive environment where any change to vertical or horizontal road alignment can be immediately evaluated for the impact to any phase of road development including site preparation, excavation, hauling, and surfacing. Since the software is completely integrated with LiDAR data, an algorithm is able to automatically calculate the optimal vertical alignment of a road for any horizontal alignment. The user can edit the vertical alignment as they see fit as well.
The spatial design window provides access to an overhead view of a road, road design information, the road's horizontal profile, and the roads cross sectional profile. Collectively, this interface allows for the design of an optimal road location.
The overhead view allows users to add new roads, or adjust the horizontal alignment of existing roads. From this view the user can place the road while considering both terrain and vegetation.

The profile view shows the current vertical profile of the selected road, along with locations of culverts, waste pits, gravel pits, and borrow pits, and the location of the currently selected cross section. The currently selected cross section is displayed in the cross sectional profile.

As the user edits the horizontal and vertical profile, the road info pane provides up-to-date information on the road given it's current alignment.

Any given road can be ran through the estimation component of the software, which will employ default or company teams to perform all the main phases of road development, as well as supplmental phases, to generate the cost to develop that road.
